Psychological Assessment FAQ

Answers about ADHD assessment, autism assessment, and diagnostic clarification for ages 12 and up.

What assessments do you offer?

We offer ADHD assessment, autism (ASD) assessment, and diagnostic clarification for ages 12 and up. Learn more on our assessment services page.

Who provides assessments at Thrive?

Megan, our owner and clinical director, provides adult psychological assessment. Daisy participates in our supervised assessment services under the supervision of a licensed clinician. Not every clinician offers assessment.

What is the difference between therapy and assessment?

Therapy is ongoing treatment focused on support and change over time. Assessment is a focused evaluation that answers specific questions, such as whether ADHD or autism is present, and results in findings and recommendations.

What happens during an assessment?

An assessment typically includes an interview about your history and concerns, standardized questionnaires or testing, and a review of relevant information. Your clinician will explain the specific steps for your evaluation up front.

How should I prepare?

Come ready to share your history and current concerns. Any prior records, report cards, or previous evaluations can be helpful. Your clinician will tell you what to gather beforehand.

Do you assess children under 12?

Our assessments are for ages 12 and up. If you are seeking evaluation for a younger child, let us know and we can talk through referral options.

What will I receive at the end?

You will receive feedback on the findings and practical recommendations. Depending on the service, this may include a written summary or report to guide next steps and treatment planning.

Can assessment be done through telehealth?

Many parts of assessment can be conducted through secure telehealth. Your clinician will let you know what the process looks like for your specific evaluation. See the telehealth FAQ.

Will you accept insurance for assessment?

Coverage for assessment varies by plan and service. We confirm your benefits before beginning. See payment options.

Can an assessment help clarify a confusing diagnosis?

Yes. Diagnostic clarification is designed for exactly that: bringing clarity when symptoms overlap or a previous picture has been unclear, so you can move forward with a plan that fits.
